DePaul's School of Music was launched as the "College of Music" in 1912 by Walter Keller. By 1913, DePaul's program expanded to emphasize teacher training that met the Chicago Board of Education requirements and began to offer a summer program designed to enable women to qualify for a baccalaureate degree. During DePaul University's early days, various colleges and schools held separate commencement ceremonies. The earliest date reflected in these files is of a mid-year commencement in 1932; the earliest summer commencement program included is from 1936. In 1942, there were five commencement ceremonies: February (mid-year), June (annual), August (summer), September (fall), and December (considered fall).
